Offered is an antique potato masher / ricer. It was manufactured by Archibald Kenrick & Sons of West Bromwich, England.The masher is fully functional. Heavier than you would think, weighing in at exactly two pounds, it appears to have all original parts and is free of dings, dents, or other significant aesthetic flaws. It does have a rustic coloration, leading me to believe that it’s made of a heavy concentration of iron. There is no portion of the masher displaying metal fatigue or other weakness. It likely hasn’t been cleaned in decades, and I’ve left it be and opted to reserve that decision to a potential new owner.The Archibald Kenrick company stamp is deeply pressed into the top portion of the handle. There is some wear to this stamping, but it is fully readable. Specifically, the outer ring reads – ARCHIBALD KENRICK & SONS, LIMITED WEST BROMWICH. The inner insignia has what may be four connected shields, each containing a single capitol letter/sign impression, those being A, K, &, and S. Surrounding these shields appears to be some sort of a decorative (or perhaps leafy?) patterning.The underside of the top handle reveals a patent number, specifically reading – Patent No 18144. That patent number impression is also impressed onto the lower handle, albeit in a smaller font.Closed, the masher is approximately 9.5 inches long, and just over 3.5 inches wide. Fully open, the masher is just under 17.5 inches long.I’m not an expert, but I would guess the masher is at least 100 years old, and very well may be several decades older still.Returns are not accepted on this item.
